9-Day Kilimanjaro Climb via Lemosho Route

The 9-Day Kilimanjaro expedition via the Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and successful summit strategies for Africa’s highest peak. Starting on the remote western side, the trek offers solitude, wildlife encounters, and a grand ecological traverse through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit zones. This journey runs for 9 Days / 8 Nights (7 trekking days + 2 hotel nights) and features key stages across Kilimanjaro National Park, Moshi, Arusha.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Tanzania

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), transfer to Moshi/Arusha hotel. Pre-climb briefing and gear check with guide. Driving/trekking time: 45–60 min. Accommodation: Hotel (Moshi/Arusha).

Day 2

Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Drive to Londorossi Gate, register, continue to trailhead. Begin trek through pristine montane rainforest with chances of seeing colobus monkeys Driving/trekking time: 4 hrs. Accommodation: Tent (Mti Mkubwa Camp, 2,780m).

Day 3

Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Ascend from rainforest to moorland and heath. Cross Shira Ridge, traverse Shira Plateau, reach Shira 2 Camp. Accommodation: Tent (Shira 2 Camp, 3,900m).

Day 4

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Acclimatization hike to Lava Tower (4,640m), then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m). Accommodation: Tent (Barranco Camp).

Day 5

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Scramble up Barranco Wall, traverse ridges, descend into Karanga Valley, camp at 4,035m. Accommodation: Tent (Karanga Camp).

Day 6

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Short but steep ascent to Barafu Base Camp (4,640m). Afternoon rest, prep for summit. Accommodation: Tent (Barafu Camp).

Day 7

Summit Day (Barafu to Uhuru Peak, descent to Mweka Camp)

Midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), sunrise on crater rim. Descend via Barafu to Mweka Camp. Accommodation: Tent (Mweka Camp, 3,080m).

Day 8

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Celebration & certificate ceremony. Return to hotel. Accommodation: Hotel (Moshi/Arusha).

Day 9

Departure

Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) for departure, or continuation safari.
